This Legal Counsel position is part of our Dispute Resolution & Regulatory Investigations (DR&RI) team. The DR&RI team plays a crucial role in the NAB Group’s management of its legal, regulatory and reputational risks through: managing actual or potential litigation, advising on significant regulatory investigation and inquiries; managing NAB’s response to the Financial Services Royal Commission; and partnering with the business, Corporate Affairs and other key stakeholders to manage significant reputational issues. This role will have a key focus on regulatory investigations and litigation.

What you will be doing

The core responsibiliteis of the role include: advising on complex claims, litigation, and regulatory investigations relating to the provision of banking services by NAB, including:

Advising on claims made against NAB, including both litigating and pre-litigation claims
Responding to compulsory notices from regulators and other matters in connection with regulatory of parliamentary inquiries of investigations
Providing advice in relation to complex complaints, litigation, and investigations
Providing advice in relation to customer remediation activities across NAB
Proactively identifying legal risk to the business and assisting in the management of those risks
Protecting and maintaining the reputation of NAB
Identifying and escalating issues, risks, breaches (and potential breaches) to relevant stakeholders
Reporting to governance committees

What you will bring

To be successful in this role, you will:
Be a lawyer with a minimum of 4+ years PQE with expertise in dispute resolution, commercial litigation and regulatory investigations
Be admitted to practice as a Barrister or Solicitor of the Supreme Court of VIC or NSW, with a current practicing certificate
Have exceptional relationship management skills
Be practical, autonomous and commercially astute with a strong legal and reputational risk management skills and be customer focused
